Who Are These Mathetaí?

Follows a random and very fragmentary list of attributes of the Mathetai.

We are the enemies equally of church and state, as we are the enemies of every real and spiritual archy.

We know that Iesous, while he was Hebrew, taught all the world: and we embrace our own gentile, particularly Hellenikos, provenience.

We have neither interest in nor patience with Christianity and its doctrines and postures; we, then, are not Christian. However, we see our spirit in certain Christians: E.g. Marsilio Ficino and Conrad Grebel are in our libraries.

We are the mathetai, the student–followers, of Iesous; our meetings, then, are schools and also sièges de campagne.

We, as did Karl Marx, perceive little use in philosophy without deeds; yet we know, with Socrates, that right action is born of right understanding: Iesous is both truth (aletheia) and way (hodos).

Our principle deeds are polemic (kerusso), education (didasko), and healing (therapeuo).

We mostly are intellectuals learning to endeavor.

We are humanist, and thus perceive the inhumanity of e.g. the “Humanist Manifesto”.

We mostly are, as Iesous and most of his first mathetai were, celibate.

To be the mathetai of Iesous is philosophy (aletheia), endeavor (hodos), and mysticism (zoe).
