Church’s book

As long as the church translates scriptures, scriptures are much in danger of sounding like the church.

And so I recommend Robert Alter to those who wish to read the Hebrew scriptures. Unfortunately, he has not assayed the prophets. And I vigorously recommend Richmond Lattimore to everyone, although he allowed himself to bend the Greek to some extent to the church’s wishes (he translated with a Christian commentary at his elbow; however, this could not affect a man of his Greek intellect excessively).

But to anyone who considers himself a student of Jesus’s — I recommend to learn Greek and prove himself such a student. It astounds me that so few do. This said, the world must have a new translation of the Gospels and Enovys unadulterated by the church.
